Northern Territory (NT) www.northernterritory.com

Capital: Darwin www.darwincity.net

The northern part is very tropical while the south is desert. Most people live in the Darwin area but Alice Springs, to the south, is a major tourism centre in the desert. The landscape can be rough but spectacular with gorges, deserts, and landforms like Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the world heritage wetlands of Kakadu National Park. The northern Australian coastline does not have ocean beaches and can have huge tidal variations. The indigenous owners manage large areas of the Northern Territory.

Average daytime temperature (celsius) in Darwin: Winter:27; Summer:30
