Length of scholarships

Students are expected to undertake full-time study. Scholarships are not offered for part-time study. Scholarships are offered for the total period considered necessary for the student to achieve the qualification shown in the application form. This includes the period required for preparatory programs. In all cases, the scholarship initially offered will be for no more than two years.

Once the offer of a scholarship has been made it is not possible to upgrade the level of study to a higher degree.

Students are expected to complete their course within the minimum time specified by the institution.

In exceptional circumstances (with approval from AusAID and the nominating partner country), a short extension may be granted to help students to complete courses where they have been unable to do so in the original timeframe. However, students should note that this is not standard practice. Depending on cost issues and the position of nominating organisations, some students may be asked to return home without completing a qualification if they cannot complete their studies in the initial timeframe approved. Students should therefore aim to complete courses in the original timeframe.
